Professor Wole Soyinka Pay Homage at his Hometown - Isara Remo In Remo North LG Ogun State















PROFESSOR WOLE SOYINKA AT ISARA

Yesterday, Sunday 15th September was another historic moment at Isara Remo as the Son of the Soul, the Nobel Laureate and the Akogun of Isara, Prof. WOLE Soyinka paid homage at his hometown, Isara Remo. 


His coming stirred up fresh hopes for Isara. He and his entourage arrived the residence of HRH Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe Erinsiba III, the Odemo of Isara around 10.30am. 


Kaabiyesi the Odemo of Isara had  assembled five of Isara High Chiefs viz Chief VK Onamiyiwa, the Lisa of Isara, Chief Sodade the Oluwo of Isara, Chief Soyombo the Apena of Isara Remo, Chief Kolapo the Solo of Isara,  Chief Aweri the Basegun and our dear baba, Otunba (Chief) Sobowale to receive the guests that were led by Bld. Kunle Awobodu who facilitated the Wole Soyinka Family coming to Isara in July to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Prof. Wole Soyinka. 


His eldest son, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka was also on the entourage. Eulogies were rendered on Prof. Soyinka for his contributions to the development of the town, especially in the area of road rehabilitation, hospital upgrading by his son Dr. Olaokun, his parents contributions to Church growth and educational emancipation were also part of the reminiscences.


Prof. Soyinka responded by expressing joy for the reception accorded him despite the short notice. He said he was happy with the chieftaincy titles of Otun Akogun and Yeye Mofin bestowed on his children by the Odemo. And that his children has started making friends in town is pleasurable to him. 


The Akogun of Isara presented the Odemo with some selected books authored by him with some bottles of wine.


After taken some pictures with the Odemo, he was shown the one acre land that Isara gave him at Obalende  close to the Nigeria Police Traffic Division. 


He was conducted round the Odemo Palace by the assigned chiefs before visiting the cemetery of his parents where he had a solemn prayer session. 


Thereafter,  the Reverend of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Isara prayed for the family generally. From there, the entourage moved to Soyinka family house before he departed. 


More details of the moment are expected to be aired on OGTV and their crew were also on ground to cover the historic visitation 


Hope alive, much is expected and breath of fresh air is envisaged as the Prof is a big figure to reckon with, and having come from Isara Remo, I feel it's high time the whole community get more gestures from this noble family as they are now back to their root.

  IN MEMORY OF ODEMO SAMUEL ADETAYO AKISANYA, AFONLADE II ODEMO OF ISARA REMO (1941 - 1985) 126TH BIRTHDAY IN POSTHUMOUS  - The attached video is 56 years old.  When the palace of Great Saki Oba Samuel Akisanya, The late Odemo of Isara was razed down by an irate mob in 1968.  - He was one of the great Nigerian Nationalists and that was his palace where the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a regular visitor.  - Odemo Samuel Adetayo Akisanya was born in Isara on the 1st of August, 1898 (126 years ago today)... - HRH S.A Akisanya was a member of the Nigerian Youth Movement.
