ODEMO OF ISARA REMO (1941 - 1985)
126TH BIRTHDAY IN POSTHUMOUS
- The attached video is 56 years old.
When the palace of Great Saki
Oba Samuel Akisanya, The late Odemo of Isara was razed down by an irate mob in 1968.
- He was one of the great Nigerian Nationalists and that was his palace where the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a regular visitor.
- Odemo Samuel Adetayo Akisanya was born in Isara on the 1st of August, 1898
(126 years ago today)...
- HRH S.A Akisanya was a member of the Nigerian Youth Movement. Other members of the Movement which was at that time a quasi-political/pressure group were Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ernest Ikoli, Alvan Ikoku, Akinola Maja, H.O. Davies, Bode Thomas, Herbert Macaulay, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, etc.
- He was a person very revered by his colleagues for his boldness, sequential presentation of facts, impeccable English, high intelligence quotient, and nonpareil political sagacity.
- Awolowo in one of his books described him as someone who had not seen the four walls of any University and when he spoke you could not believe he was not a graduate. He also said that he usually came last for the meeting with boys helping him to carry his books like a lawyer going to court. And the shout General Saaki!, General Saaki! Usually rented the air when he entered the meeting venue.
- His prowess in the use of the English Language and political charisma made him elected the Secretary of the National Youth Movement.
- The Late Odemo after the collapse of the Movement became the Chairman of the West African Transport Union with its Headquarters in Ghana.
- He became the Odemo of Isara in 1941 after the demise of Odemo Onabajo Poke based on his boldness.
- Before his installation, there were five ruling houses in Isara. His ascension to the throne brought it to six.
- He was made the minister without a portfolio based on extraordinary achievements
- He reigned as the Odemo of Isara between 1941 and 1985...(39years ago)
He is regarded today as the first literate Oba who raised Isara from obscurity to the glare of publicity and National recognition by the fact of his popularity.
Oba Akisanya was a man of engaging personality, in his time, he was one of the best-dressed men in Yoruba land. Either according to English custom or Yoruba culture and tradition.
