Professor Wole Soyinka: Familiarity Visit;
The Children of the Isara Remo Born Nobel Laureate, Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka Received a Warm Welcome Home at Isara Remo.
Yesterday, 1st July 2024, The Odemo of Isara, Isara Developer Council, and other community stakeholders welcomed the children of the Akogun of Isara Chief Wole Soyinka, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, and Barrister (Mrs.) Moremi Soyinka-Onijala to Isara ahead of the 90th birthday celebration of WS., the children deemed it necessary to pay homage at the root of their forbears in Isara the ancestral home of the Soyinkas.
They want to reunite with their kids and folks at Isara and make themselves more visible in the scheme of things.
Their father will be 90 years old on July 13, 2024, and they consider it imperative for them to be in touch with their root.
Little did most people know that Professor Wole Soyinka was born in Isara where his father hailed from just because he has not been showing up during community calls lately.
The noble laureate is the son of the late Pa. Samuel Ayodele Soyinka, who was born in Isara on the 6th of June 1906 and passed on on 05/01/1973, was buried at St. Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery yard with his beloved wife, the late Mrs. Grace Eniola Soyinka.
The family was given a royal welcome, right at the Lagos - Ibadan expressway, precisely from the Saapade bridge through the Wole Soyinka Way, into the town.
The children were surprised to know that a road, one of the long roads at Isara was named after their father to honor him for the gestures he has given back to Isara in the past.
Many people believe that Professor Wole Soyinka isn't claiming to have come from Isara, but that's not true, the Akogun of Isara must have stayed away from Isara due to reasons best known to him but, the truth is that it was in honor of Professor Wole Soyinka that few of the township roads were constructed at Isara many years ago.
For his parents to be buried in Isara, then I want to believe nobody can be more Isara than him at least for all that he has done in the past.
We should also recall that Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka authored a book, Isara: A Journey Around Essay. The book gave a good historical account of Isara and its diverse Sociocultural heritage.
I just hope and believe it's never too late for Baba to use his international influence and opportunities to make some changes again positively to the benefit of Isara Remo, our dear Jerusalem.
The Odemo of Isara, Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe (Erinsiba all), his chiefs, Isara elders, Chief Pekun Awobona, Otunba N. A Sobowale, Mr. Sesan Benson Lawal (Chairman Isara Development Council ), and a host of other sons and daughters of Isara joyfully welcomed the family of the true Son of the soil, to their country home at the Bookseller area of Isara Remo yesterday.
The children of the professor tagged their visit as a homecoming. Dr. Olaokun Soyinka and Barrister (Mrs.) Moremi Soyinka-Onijala appreciated the community leaders for the warm reception, they apologized for being away for so long and assured the community that they were back home.
Places and dignitaries visited during the august visit include, The Palace of the Odemo of Isara to pay homage to the Kabiyesi, The Isara Traditional Council, Isara Development Council,l, and Isara chiefs.
They also visited the Townhall, Their grandparents' Tomb at St. Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery, and their family house.
Happy 90th birthday in advance to the Akogun of Isara Remo, Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka.
God bless Isara Remo
